The father was holding the boy's hand and they were running just for the sheer pleasure of running. I darn near stopped and joined them.

The Dark Side

If you missed the FRONTLINE program "The Dark Side," you can now watch it online. As the site describes it:

FRONTLINE goes behind the headlines to investigate the internal war that was waged between the intelligence community and Richard Bruce Cheney, the most powerful vice president in the nation's history.

It is amazing. You may want to skip the first minute of the first segment. I find the emergency calls from the WTC darn near unbearable.

The Future Is Behind

The language of the Aymara reverses what was assumed to be a universal spatial metaphor: that the future is ahead and the past is behind, according to an article on the UCSD website. Some interesting asides on temporal metaphors in English as well.

I wonder if such a linguistic structure would blunt the (late capitalist) ideology of "progress." Note, too, that the younger Aymara who are fluent in Spanish are adopting the future ahead, past behind temporal metaphor.

Thanks to Mind Hacks for the link.
